What Is Zooglea?
Meet the Silent Threat Inside Your HVAC System
Zooglea is a bacteria biofilm that forms in damp, dark drain lines, It creates a sticky, slimy sludge that can clog the line, leading to overflows, leaks and damage to ceilings, walls and floors.

Instead of waiting for a backup, AC NeverClog runs an automated suction cycle every 24 hours for 1 minute, pulling zooglea, algae, gunk and obstructions from the drain line
AC NeverClog stops buildup before a clog can start
Prevents water damage
No chemicals to refill
Stops debris, bugs and other obstructions
Installs once and works automatically
What Is Zooglea?
Zooglea is the name commonly used for the sticky biological buildup that develops inside wet HVAC condensate drain lines. It can contain bacteria, organic material, dust and other debris that bind together to form a slimy biofilm.
As an air-conditioning system removes humidity from indoor air, condensate flows through the drain line. The line’s dark, damp environment allows biological material to accumulate along the pipe walls. Over time, this buildup can restrict drainage and eventually contribute to a complete AC drain line clog.
What Causes Zooglea to Grow?
Biological buildup develops where moisture and organic material are present. HVAC condensate drain lines routinely carry water, dust and airborne debris, creating conditions in which sticky biofilm can accumulate.
Warm temperatures, high humidity, frequent system operation, poor drain-line slope and restricted water flow can accelerate buildup. This is why condensate drain clogs are especially common in hot, humid regions such as Florida and the Gulf Coast.
What Happens When Zooglea Grows in Drain Lines?
As biological material restricts the drain line, condensate can back up into the drain pan or HVAC equipment. Depending on the system, a safety switch may shut down the air conditioner, or water may overflow and damage ceilings, walls, flooring and nearby property.
Standing water and excess moisture can also contribute to unwanted microbial growth. A clogged condensate drain should therefore be corrected before it causes an AC shutdown or water damage.
How AC NeverClog™ Helps Prevent Zooglea Buildup
Traditional drain-line maintenance commonly involves shop-vac cleaning, bleach, vinegar, tablets or recurring chemical treatments. These methods must be repeated because condensation and debris continue entering the drain system.
AC NeverClog™ mounts outside the home and connects to the condensate drain through a ¾-inch PVC negative-pressure manifold. Its factory-programmed schedule operates the system for one minute every 24 hours, evacuating accumulating biological material and debris before that material develops into a blockage.
AC NeverClog™ operates without recurring bleach, vinegar, tablets or chemical refills. An annual tank and valve rinse is recommended.
When connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, scheduling and manual control are available through the Smart Life app. Connecting to Wi-Fi overrides the factory-programmed schedule, so the user must create and activate a new schedule in the app.
